Screening for peripheral artery disease (PAD) includes a review of your medical history and risk factors for peripheral artery disease, as well as blood tests, Doppler ultrasound and ankle-brachial blood pressure measurements. Ankle-brachial index (ABI) is done by measuring blood pressure at the ankle and in the arm while a person is at rest. Measurements are usually repeated at both sites after 5 minutes of walking on a treadmill. Additional imaging tests, such as intravascular ultrasound or magnetic resonance angiography may be recommended, if necessary.
